This Section States the Rules
-
We will play the seventeen (17) weeks from the NFL’s Week 2 through Week 18, plus the two (2) holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas, for a total of nineteen (19) unique picks for the season. You may submit any pick for any week or bracket at anytime, but doing so will officially lock that pick in.
-
Only one (1) team for each week/bracket [color coded in the accompanying chart] may be used and that team may not be picked again. This shouldn’t need any further explanation.
Only slightly more complicated is the rule that you may not pick ‘against’ a team more than four (4) times. If that is not clear, I’ll explain with an example… since it is probable that the Carolina Panthers will not win a game this year, if you picked the team playing them to win each week - after subtracting their two (2) remaining divisional games [restricted due to duplication], then you would get fifteen (15) wins easily. That result would be ridiculously boring and we’re not going to let that happen!
Finally, everyone must pick their favorite team [we all know whose is whose] at some point.
-
The deadline for a player to choose their own pick for the week is [whatever time the pool's administrator wakes up] on Sunday morning. You may ask, "what about the fact that there will be a Thursday Night game most weeks?" Well, a lazy player who chooses to delay submitting their pick will be frowned upon. Seriously though, they will just not get the opportunity to pick from one of those teams playing that night.
The official recommendation to each player is, "be cool and get the pick in as soon as you can, so that the overall-week's picks can be posted and the shit-talking based upon those selections may begin."
-
If you fail to make a pick by the deadline, you will be assigned the highest ranking team available for you according to the current week’s standing in the ESPN Power Rankings… the first time is not penalized but if a second defaulted pick results in a win from stated team, it will only be worth a half-point (0.5) and that’s not fun; don’t be that guy!
-
Picking a winning team grants a player one (1) point. There is, however, a special bonus of three (3) points granted to the "Survivor." In a normal ‘survivor pool,’ each player’s tournament ends when they pick a team to win and that team loses, and the pool winning ‘survivor’ is the last man standing. Since the former scenario could happen quickly for anyone, we are going to all play out the entire season. Rewarding the survivor with three (3) additional points, in theory, should give that player an insurmountable lead to carry them to the end of the season.
The overview chart has nineteen column/bracket in which make one pick. If the image is not legible, click here to view in a new window or download.
The foretasted rules were chosen to try to make the entire season interesting and engaging. They are a fairly standardized compilation of survivor-rules that seem to work best for the pool administrator, but please feel free to vote on any proposed amendments or use the form below to offer an alternative for future seasons.
“In traditional ‘one rule’ survival pools where a loss means you’re out... 40% of all players chose the Cincinnati Bengals to defeat the New England Patriots in the first week of the 2024 season, and they will be waiting a long time to play again.”
Don’t like what you see? You may voice your opinion at the end…

Administrator Curated Commentary:
9/8/2024 (1:20 PM) In reference to me not having everything ready to go by the first Sunday of the season and declaring that this pool was starting at Week 2, JumboC said, "More bullshit. We dealt with this every fucking week last year because you were too busy to get it done. When you're a graph person?"
9/8/2024 (3:12 PM) The final invitation to participate in this pool was sent out to the Turtle.
9/8/2024 (8:17 PM) The Turtle’s response to the invitation to play: “ABSOLUTELY!”.
9/10/2024 (8:28 AM) I devised a ‘system’ to receive player picks and asked everyone to, “email each week’s pick(s) anytime starting Tuesday” and after a little banter with JumboC, I asked him again specifically to “just send the damn email so we can get the ball rolling, please.”
9/10/2024 (8:29 AM) JumboC’s response to my query, “Fuck email. I'm not 80”
9/11/2024 (12:50 PM) Well, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I created this webpage to make it easy for players to post their pick and see their standing. In prior years of playing in “pick’em pools,” we shared most of the results on Facebook, but this year there are multiple players in this pool who are not on that platform any longer, so this should work.
9/11/2024 (6:48 PM) Viper wanted connived that “Chargers Stink !! JimboC, love you brother”
9/12/2024 (11:16 AM) The final pick for Week 2 was received and the Scorecard above has been updated. The Turtle wants everyone to know, “Thanks for inviting me. Prepare to lose.” That’s a lot of confidence! We will see. We will see.
9/12/2024 (11:27 AM) All Players have their “winners” playing during the 1-o’clock time slot. We are going to know the leaderboard score early on Sunday! Who will be bounced from the running to become the Survivor???
9/15/2024 (9:56 AM) The Overview grid and the Scorecard were both altered slightly. The former was made a little more colorful, and the Thanksgiving and Christmas games were moved into their own column to avoid confusion with their concurrent weeks. Both had the names of the “Washington Team” changed from the Generals to the Commanders. I care so little about them, and so fitting the mistake, that it took weeks to notice. Also the rows on the schedule for the Los Angeles Rams (LAR) and the Los Vegas Raider (LV) were reversed; this was a spreadsheet sorting issue depending on weather I was using the proper name of the city or it’s abbreviation.
9/16/2024 (10:23 AM) Another crazy underdog week in the NFL, and three pool Players eliminated from Survivor contention in our first week!

Vote on Suggested Rules Changes:
After reviewing all of the pool specific rules and seeing how they affected the outcome producing the eventual Survivor; how could things be done better? The results of the polls are not made public, but I will respond to all with a consensus of whatever the results indicate.
Take for example, I received some feedback after informally asking players whether picking a winner that played in a tie game should be award any points, and spoiler - they will not!
Suggested Rule Change #1: After asking in an internal poll whether a tie should award any points [spoiler - they will not], a suggestion was made which we are calling. It was proposed as such, “[A] double elimination, thus [when you lose] you must pick a loser [from that time on]. Then if you get out, you can pick a tie. Good fucking luck picking a tie! But if you pick a tie RIGHT, then you're back in the game. Once [everyone is] "out" then start over.”
