Saint Patrick’s Day - Mystic (2025)
We decided that for our 2025 Irish Celebration to stay down in Mystic Connecticut once again. The pictures from our first trip there, a decade prior, may be found at the post titled,
Saint Patrick’s Day - Mystic (2015).
The parade kicked-off at 1:00 PM 23 March 2025 and it took those marching about 20 minutes to get to where we were, relatively near to the reviewing stand at the end.
We had dinner at the The Harp and Hound and then walked over to have a more few pints at Bank & Bridge Brew Pub. Obviously, it was a great night.
The pre-parade meal was at Mystic Pizza, because we like it. We had a table overlooking the parade route, I have a picture of the some wings but not the pizza for some reason.
The parade itself was nice.
I can not fail to mention two things:
The shamrock and the four-leaf clover are not the same thing! The former, one of the symbols of Ireland, is a clover with three leaves and the latter has four leaves and is just a generic symbol of “good-luck.”
Almost all pipers you will ever see in a parade are from the Scottish tradition and are not Irish. Although the music they play may be of either ethnicity, they use pipes that are blown into and not inflated with the arm, and their dress is clearly a tribute to the british crown. The wearing of kilts is, contrary to anyone trying to make it happen, not part of Irish culture, tradition, nor heritage. Only from Irish soldiers’ bands in the English army were they adopted [during the 19th Century Gaelic Revival] in formal occasions to be a differentiating marker between themselves and the English.
